Top 5 Antibiotics for SHTF

Survival antibiotics are often overlooked by preppers. One reason is because preppers don’t know which ones to buy or even where to get them. If any of you have purchased antibiotics for your long-term medical supplies, you know that these are considered prepper gold.

Having this medicine on hand in extended emergencies can help prevent infections or even save a life. Some of the most popular are:

  1. Zithromax – UTIs, URIs, Sepsis (used in an IV), STDs, and ear infections.
  2. Ampicillan – This a more broad spectrum antibiotic that treats skin infections, STDs, Sepsis and ear infections.
  3. Cipro – This antibiotic has a lot of toxicity issues and should be taken sparingly. Can be used for UTIs, infectious diarrhea, bone and joint infections.
  4. Amoxicillan – This is a very popular antibiotic used in upper respiratory, ear, nose and throat infections, and teeth abscesses.
  5. Doxycycline – An effective antibiotic used for malaria, and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.

There are so many other ways to get your hands on some of these antibiotics without having to even see a doctor. Many preppers have hundreds of antibiotics in Mylar bags that are stored away for when SHTF. If not for medicinal purposes then trading.

It should be emphasized that antibiotics should only be used as a last resort. Give your body a chance to fight the infection. If the infection continues, consider using a course of antibiotics.

And don’t forget that some people are allergic. You should seek serious medical assistance before self medicating yourself.

I spread the news of disaster preparedness and homesteading skills to the masses. My mission is to teach the keyboard commandos out there some real life skills.

  1. Pharmacist here: Doxycycline will prevent malaria, but is not so good at treating it. The entire tetracycline family also has the unfortunate potential to become toxic rather then merely useless if used past its expiry date. Same story with aspirin.

  2. With any and all of the above listed, they have an expiration date, usually within a few months. What are you going to do then? This is the reason that you should be familiar with herbs and grow them in your garden.

Some of the antibiotic herbs that I grow in my garden are: Apple(leaves are used externally); Asparagus(seed); Blessed Thistle; Burdock; Cayenne; Chamomile(external); Echinacea; Garlic; Hyssop; Lemon Balm; Sage; Thyme; White Horehound, and Yarrow(which I have read kills all forms of bacteria). There are also wild forms growing here where I live: Lichens, Osage Orange; Reishi Mushroom, Usnea(which grows all over the USA and is very potent for gram-positive bacteria), and Yarrow.

  3. You said, There are so many other ways to get your hands on some of these antibiotics without having to even see a doctor. So why didn’t you tell us how to get antibiotics?

  4. you can go online and find these for fish and are the same as the doctor will give you i think it is fish mox forte something like that it cost around twenty dollars a bottle but you get it in any milligram you want i have used it a lot of times and works just fine. i used it for mouth infections and diverticulitus its spelled wrong but get what i am saying.

  5. […] some of the cases above, antibiotics can be used to treat the diseases. Be sure to add them to your prep […]
